Nick: We do circumcisions here at First Choice Pediatrics within the first two months of the child’s life or up to 12 pounds.
Esther: American Academy of Pediatrics do recommend circumcision for the babies. Circumcision is offered at all of our five locations. Although if you do have to do circumcision at later age for any other medical reasons than we would have to refer you to a surgeon. There’s some controversies and the problem is that insurances are not covering it. They’re still considering it as cosmetic procedure but we do believe that it is better for their hygiene and there’s other studies showing that it does decrease rates of sexually transmitted infections. It’s actually quicker healing and we do use this sucrose solution to calm them down and it is very effective. Doctors do use local anesthesia to help with the pain also. I do recommend getting the circumcision and we do offer the surgery here.
Natalia: I have actually seen a circumcision before. The circumcision that I’ve actually seen, the baby slept through the whole thing.
Circumcisions are performed in the office on baby boys under 2 months of age and less than 12 lbs. At First Choice Pediatrics, we handle this important procedure with precision, expertise and compassion. We minimize the discomfort your child will experience, while simultaneously helping him to feel safe and anxiety-free throughout the procedure. And YES we use local anesthesia so that the pain is virtually nonexistent to your baby!
Weight, length, and head circumference will be taken to keep track of your baby’s growth. Further examination will include your newborn’s vision, hearing, reflexes, and total physical examination to check for any abnormalities of the body or organ functions.
